If you’re fond of a good ice cream or 5, it’s time to make your way to Canggu. Three cafes have dedicated themselves to sweetening up your life, and having their ice creations melting on your tongue is the easiest way to get a bit closer to heaven.

Before breakfast, instead of lunch or after dinner – any time is ice cream time. We all know sweets induce happiness, so throw caution into the wind, ditch the #cleaneating, and simply sit back, lick, slurp and enjoy.

OLD MAN’S

Whilst taking a relaxed walk on Canggu beach, you shouldn’t miss the opportunity to pop in at Old Man’s and get a scoop of one of their 16 varieties of delicious Gelato. And when we say “a” scoop, you know we really mean three.

There is nothing better then an afternoon stroll along the beach enjoying your favorite gelato.

Try the fresh lemon sorbetto and combine it with the Snickers gelato or Valrhona Chocolate. Sean Cosgrove, who reopened the Beach bar and Restaurant about one and a half years ago, went to the local suppliers himself to chose his 16 favorites. Tough gig.

Every ice cream is made of only the freshest ingredients and they are all corn-syrup free. Behind the ice cream counter at Old Mans’s you will find a great mix of sorbets, and creamy classics. ” Every now and then we try out something new, like the Tamarillo sorbetto.” Sean explains.  We are happy he did, as Tamarillo became the most popular one amongst the sorbets.
But every single one of them is definetely a sweet sin worth. From the beginning on Sean wanted to include Ice cream at Old Man’s. “Ice cream and hanging out at the beach with friends and family are simply inseperable.” he smiles whilst scraping out his gelato cup. His number one remains unrevealed and his guests agree. Salted Butter Caramel Ice Cream is always the first one, which is sold out.

AVOCADO

A little bit further down on Jalan Batu Bolong you find Melanie Bomba’s new café AVOCADO on your left. Just opposite to the BuMi Warung.

Melanie opened the cozy cafe just a few months ago. Owning the Fitness studio Motion on Jl. Petitenget and working successfully since years as a nutrition consultant, using fresh and organic products is essential to her.

Besides all sorts of organic juices, home made salads and smoothies, she has a small range of outstanding delicious ice creams. Four of the five different flavours, mint, vanilla, chocolate and red berries are all dairy free and thus 100% vegan. ” Only the Joghurt Gelato is on a milk base” explains Melanie who arrived from Germany nine years ago to Bali.  ” I just love Joghurt ice cream. It’s my absolute favorite.” And again those two words conjure this enthusiastic glow in an adults face.

I choose the different flavors together with my son. Last month we had cookies and cream, this time we got mint.

So don’t forget to leave some space for it in your belly. Because once you tried one you want to try them all. So take a seat, relax and enjoy. All ice creams are served in cups or wafer cones and can be topped with smarties, chocolate or strawberry sauce. Asking the owner about her secret for the great success she has with her businesses she answers ” I always did exactly what felt right to me. I follow my own inspiration and add an extra portion of love and passion into everything I do”. You can taste this in anything you get served at Cafe AVOCADO.

GROVE

And why not skipping dinner today and enjoy instead one or two scoops of the freshest, nuttiest pistachio ice cream around at GROVE. A little Shop & Drinkery oasis at No. 34 Jl. Pantai Berawa in Canggu, Cole and Sabrina opened in December of 2013.

Apart from fresh juice, homemade sodas, teas and french-press coffee, you will find a mouth watering selection of homemade baked goods and treats. And of course…ice cream ! If you can’t decide if you should go for the dark chocolate cookie or the vanilla bean Gelato, don’t worry. Take them both!  Get two cookies and place a scoop of your favorite ice cream in between. A true explosion of delight for your taste buds.

“We carry old fashioned ice cream as well as sorbetto (dairy free). The selection of flavors varies based on our tastes and requests from customers.” says Cole. “At the moment we have Dark Chocolate, Nutella, Pistachio and Vanilla Bean ice cream as well as Mango, Strawberry, and Lemonade sorbetto.”

You see the child coming out in everyone when they pick their ice cream.

Sabrina and Cole themselves can’t get enough from Dark Chocolate. “I also love our lemonade sorbetto ” Sabrina adds, ” It reminds me of summers with my grandmother.”

What is the secret to get this amazing beautiful flavor, one might wonder. Sabrina and Cole chose their supplier based on their use of real ingredients – chocolate, vanilla bean, and real fruits.  The richness of the ice cream is a testament to the use of rich, traditional ingredients.

A new arrival at the little Shop & Drinkery are the  Mad Pops Artisanal Popsicles . So don’t be shy and get your hands on these all-natural, fruity treats made right here in Bali.

While you’re enjoying your ice cream sandwich, have a look around and shop handmade, vintage, and one-of-a-kind treasures from GROVE’s sister store, Cave and Cove. Discover unique items from local brands and artisans including jewellery, bags, home decor and art.
